Cebu intensifies rescue efforts amid Typhoon Tino floods

Cebu Province is currently grappling with the impact of Typhoon Tino, which has caused heavy rainfall, flash floods, and landslides across multiple municipalities. As floodwaters continue to rise, rescue operations are in full swing, with local authorities racing against time to assist affected residents and minimize casualties.

Swift Response and Rescue Operations

The Cebu Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) has activated its emergency response teams, coordinating with local fire departments, police units, and volunteer groups. Rubber boats and trucks are being used to evacuate stranded families, particularly in Danao, Consolacion, Mandaue, and Toledo City, where floodwaters have reached waist to chest level.

Governor Gwendolyn Garcia has ordered continuous monitoring of all flood-prone areas and assured that relief operations are being expedited. Food packs, bottled water, and hygiene kits are being distributed to evacuees taking shelter in public schools and barangay halls converted into temporary evacuation centers.

Flooding and Infrastructure Impact

Several major roads, including Cebu North Road and Transcentral Highway, have become impassable due to flooding and landslides. The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is working to clear debris and restore access to isolated communities.
Meanwhile, power outages and communication disruptions have been reported in some areas, prompting power companies to deploy restoration teams once conditions improve.

Suspension of Travel and Classes

The Philippine Coast Guard has suspended all sea travel across Cebu ports due to rough seas and strong winds. Airlines have also canceled select domestic flights as a safety precaution.
Classes and government work in several cities, including Cebu City and Lapu-Lapu City, have been suspended until further notice to ensure public safety.

PAGASA Advisory

According to PAGASA, Typhoon Tino continues to move northwest at moderate speed, bringing sustained winds of up to 95 km/h and gustiness reaching 120 km/h. The agency has placed the entire Central Visayas region under heavy rainfall warnings, cautioning residents against potential flash floods and landslides.

Humanitarian Efforts and Public Appeal

Non-government organizations and private groups are extending help by donating relief goods and setting up community kitchens. Authorities are reminding the public to donate responsibly and avoid spreading misinformation online.

As Cebu faces yet another climate challenge, unity and preparedness remain vital. The provincial government continues to urge residents to stay alert, follow evacuation orders promptly, and prioritize safety over property.

Stay safe, Cebu! Always monitor updates from PAGASA, PDRRMO, and official local channels for real-time advisories.
